Mad Dogs, Marbles, and Rock Fights A Memoir is not an autobiography. It is a recollection of a time—the 1950s and early 1960s—a place—Marshall, Texas—and the characters of that time and place from the perspective of a young boy who did his early growing up then, there, and with those characters. It is a non-fiction work, although I am sure those with whom I spent my early years in Marshall will point out my misremembrances. I once read that we are great at revisionist remembering. Well, maybe a little.

Mad Dogs Marbles and Rock Fights a memoir Scott Eubanks 9780998664163 Books

This is a story of real life Leave it to Beaverville. It speaks of a time that will never be experienced again because we will never again have a first wave of Baby Boomers spawned by the "Greatest Generation" and the post WWII world created by that generation. This is about kids in one small town in East Texas but it could be the story about many small towns in America in the fifties. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in exploring the actual basis of all those old television programs such as "Father Knows Best", "Ozzie and Harriet", "The Donna Reed Show" and of course "Leave it to Beaver" as well as others.

There is something for everyone in this book by Scott Eubanks. Boomers will all find something with which to identify here and later generations will be amused at the both the naivety and creativity of these characters. It is a fun read.

Full of humor and a charming and educational description of growing up in the 1950's. Good read.
Well written book. Enjoyed every page.
What a great, fun read! Several times I laughed so hard I was in tears. I grew up in a town not far from Marshall, but this could just as easily been my friends and I in my hometown. A friend of mine recommended this book to me. So glad they did.
WONDERFUL BOOK -- great stories of warmth, humor and relationships. I've bought 3 copies of this wonderful book and have given them to friends and family. They loved the writing style and everyone seems to be able to relate to many aspects of the author's childhood experiences. I'm putting in an order for more copies!!!
It's just like I remembered it, growing up in the '50's and '60's in a small town. The characters are real. The descriptions of aromas, sounds, face to face interactions with buddies, neighbors, tradesmen -- no internet to hide behind, just a handy tree or fence. I LOVED IT!
Wish my kids and grandkids could live it for themselves -- guess they'll just have to use their imaginations and read Mr. Eubanks' memoir!
Since I'm from the same hometown as the author, I identified with many of the events and characters in the book. It is light reading for those who enjoy nostalgia and history of a person's past. Scott (Scotty to me!) captures 50's and 60's times in a small East Texas town with humor and good character descriptions (real people!). Looking at the past and it's impact on a person's life can be uplifting and helpful for the future.
Scott Eubanks has put together a,n excellent walk down memory lane, based on his adventures growing up in East Texas, and I do mean adventures that will make you smile! The book is easy and fun to read. We get to meet an interesting cast of characters, including Mr. Eddie and his mule; "Funny" Pace; Chuckie the talking parakeet and the look for one of the funniest lines in the book from the story of the '56 Pontiac driven to school by a 12 year old! Just a few highlights from this well written effort. I recommend Mad Dogs, Marbles and Rock Fights! --Ronnie Morrison
